Instructor: Hazal Günel – Gender Equality Specialist, Community Volunteers Foundation

Since its founding, the Community Volunteers Foundation has prioritized gender equality and has carried out work within the Gender Mainstreaming Program, established in 2011. Through dissemination trainings, TOG brings together young people and various private-sector institutions to promote gender equality.

Within the Gender Mainstreaming Program, our work aims to raise awareness among young people aged 17–25 on key topics such as gender equality, positive discrimination, nonviolent communication, safe relationships, the women's movement, fundamental gender-related concepts, violence, methods of combating violence, and national and international legal frameworks. Through both online and in-person trainings, we aim to equip young people with the knowledge needed to deliver peer-learning sessions at their universities, with a goal of reaching 500 young participants.

Why Should There Be Gender Equality Trainings?

According to the World Economic Forum’s 2023 report, Türkiye ranks 129th out of 146 countries in gender equality. UN reports show that individuals experience discrimination based on gender in areas such as employment, education, participation in social and political life, and division of domestic labor. Identifying areas of discrimination and addressing inequalities is crucial—and access to gender equality trainings, especially for young people, is one of the most effective methods for achieving this.

How Will We Achieve Gender Equality?

With young people leading and adults guiding, we aim to create a multiplier effect through peer education. University students aged 17–25 who receive instructor training will actively implement what they learn in the field, creating meaningful change through small but impactful groups.

One of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals is to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls who face discrimination due to their gender. For this very reason, we continue our work with the motto “Gender Equality for Full Equality!”
